Diet Fitness Goal Setting.
Set your diet and fitness goals the smart way!

Diet fitness goal setting, must be up there amongst the most popular goal setting activities. One of the reasons for this, is probably because few of us manage to achieve our diet fitness aims and so find ourselves re-setting the same goals, time after time!

So how do you get out of the loop and start to make real progress?
How do you set your diet fitness goals the smart way!

The fundamental and most vital ingredient for diet fitness goal setting, or indeed any successful goal setting, is ‘Mind power.’

For any goal setting activity to succeed you need 3 things:
Thought, action and persistence or ‘TAP’
These, like most things in life work separately and together!

Thought.

You fistly need to have the wish or desire to begin a healthy diet fitness goal setting programme. This is the long term goal. In this case it would ideally be, to maintain a healthy diet and be fit for life!

To achieve any goals, you must be totally committed to them. Totally is the important word here. Often, if we dig deep, we may find that subconsciously, we are not as bothered as we think we are, about achieving the healthy diet, or fitness objectives we set. This is nearly always why we fail. You need to want to reach the desired eating and health targets badly enough to achieve success and you need to think positively. There is no room for any doubt about your ability to achieve and you must recognise it as a FACT that you will!

Part of the recognition of fact, is believing that you are already there. That you have already achieved your fitness and exercise aims. A well known technique for this is to use visualisation.

Visualise, how the ‘new you’ will look, feel and act. See yourself in different situations, as slim and healthy. Play the scenes, like a video in your mind, in all its glorious Technicolor! Then, imagine that you have already achieved your goal. Experience the confidence, well being and energy this gives you to continue being this way. Hold and carry yourself like the person you see.

diet, fitness
It’s really important that you feel you are succeeding. This is the essential motivation which generates the enthusiasm to continue.

So when you set targets, set small, achievable but very specific diet and fitness goals, which cover short periods of time, and which you, realistically, feel you have a chance of reaching.

These will gradually build, one upon the other, to lead to the desired long term result. A mini goal, to achieve a small amount of weight loss and/or daily fitness, is more likely to be achievable and lead to success than an unrealistic expectation.

Next weigh up,(excuse the pun!) what changes will need to be made and to what extent you’re prepared to carry them through. If as part of the diet plan it’s going to be impossible for you to give up chocolate completely, be realistic and arrange for yourself a compromise which is possible to reach.

Action

Now comes the bit that is more tricky because shock horror, it requires………. EFFORT!

It’s so easy isn’t it, to plan the diet fittness goal setting activity of say, getting up early each morning to go for a brisk 30 minute walk. But oh, how much harder when the bed is cosy and the rain is pattering down outside!

Whatever task you have set must be done and the effort has to be put in. There is simply no magic formula. Action and effort are required. As the Nike ad says… ‘Just Do It!’

Persistence.

Ok, so you’ve put in the thought and lots of action and effort. Now you can rest easy… yes?

Nope.

This is perhaps the hardest stage of all. The bit when all your efforts can seem futile and you are a bit low. When you feel you’re not making enough progress despite all your hard work. Your weight has stayed the same or you’ve experienced an unexpected setback with your diet and fitness plans. This is when persistence comes into play. There are going to be times when good intentions slip, sometimes through no fault of your own. The most important thing is to accept them and move forward.

Just keep on going!

Now more than ever, it’s a dogged determination which is needed to continue on with the thought, action and persistence necessary to complete you diet fitness goals,in order to achieve the success you deserve.

So come on. What are you waiting for? Give it a go!
